ROLE REVIEW
The Assistant Head - Assessment & Timetabling Data (Academic) is responsible for ensuring high standards of academic performance, data analysis, curriculum implementation, and reporting across the Secondary School. The role involves monitoring student attainment, enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, optimising the timetable, and ensuring accurate and effective academic reporting.

Working closely with Heads of Departments, teachers, and senior leadership, the Assistant Head - Assessment & Timetabling Data (Academic) will lead data-driven improvements in student achievement, assessment practices, and academic interventions, ensuring alignment with the English National Curriculum and IGCSE standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Academic Performance & Data Analysis

  • Oversee student progress tracking and performance analysis to inform school-wide academic strategy through the iSams platform.
  • Lead data collection within iSams and interpretation, using assessment results to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Use IGCSE predicted grades, internal assessments, and standardised testing data to drive academic excellence.
  • Implement and oversee targeted academic interventions for students at risk of underperformance.
  • Ensure that student data,collected through iSams is used effectively by teachers to inform lesson planning and differentiation.

Quality of Teaching & Learning for Academic Progress 

  • Monitor and support Heads of Departments in lesson planning, curriculum delivery, and assessment consistency.
  • Conduct lesson observations, coaching, and feedback sessions to enhance teaching standards.
  • Implement evidence-based teaching strategies to promote student engagement and high achievement.
  • Ensure that assessment for learning practices are effectively used to provide students with clear academic targets.
  • Promote effective use of digital learning tools to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

Timetable & Curriculum Planning 

  • Lead on the design, implementation, and management of the school timetable, ensuring efficient use of staff and resources.
  • Ensure the timetable maximises student learning time while maintaining teacher workload balance.
  • Work with subject leaders to align curriculum planning, assessment schedules, and academic priorities.
  • Adjust and refine the timetable based on student needs, staffing changes, and academic objectives.
  • Ensure this process runs smoothly through the iSams platform.

Assessment, Monitoring & Academic Interventions

  • Oversee the assessment calendar, ensuring timely and effective assessments at all key stages.
  • Develop and implement intervention programmes to support students requiring additional academic support.
  • Ensure accurate and efficient data collection, tracking, and analysis to inform teaching strategies and student progress.
  • Support teachers in using assessment data to plan differentiated learning experiences.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions and report findings to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).


Academic Reporting

  • Through iSams, ensure accurate and timely academic reporting to students, parents, and senior leadership.
  • Lead the production of progress reports, termly reports, and end-of-year academic summaries.
  • Support Heads of Departments and teachers in writing clear, meaningful, and constructive student reports.
  • Present academic performance analysis to SLT and Governors, highlighting achievements and areas for development.
  • Develop reporting systems that ensure parents receive timely and informative updates on their child’s progress.

Staff Development & Leadership

  • Provide training and professional development on data analysis, assessment practices, and teaching strategies.
  • Support Heads of Departments in leading data-informed discussions to enhance student outcomes.
  • Contribute to staff performance management by providing feedback on teaching effectiveness.
  • Encourage a culture of academic excellence, collaboration, and innovation among staff.

Whole-School Contribution

  • Work with the Pastoral Team and SENCO to ensure academic progress is supported alongside student well-being.
  • Engage with parents, students, and staff to create a culture of high expectations and academic ambition.
  • Contribute to school development planning, self-evaluation, and inspection preparation.
  • Stay informed on educational research, curriculum updates, and best practices in academic leadership.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Strong academic background with a degree in a relevant subject.
  • Significant experience teaching IGCSE and the English National Curriculum at Key Stage 3 & 4.
  • Experience in a middle or senior leadership role, with a proven track record of raising academic standards.
  • Expertise in using iSams platform on a whole school level.
  • Expertise in data collection, analysis and reporting via iSams to drive student progress.
  • Experience in timetable design and academic planning.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply student performance data.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to implement effective intervention strategies to support student achievement.
  • A deep understanding of assessment frameworks, progress tracking and quality assurance in teaching.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate both staff and students towards academic excellence.
