JOB PURPOSE / KEY RESULTS AREA/ RESPONSIBILITIES
Head of Department
- Lead and manage the Counselling team and department.
- Ensure that the team operates within the counselling and safeguarding policies of TIS and Taylor’s Schools
- Keep the Principal, and other counsellors aware of incidents and concerns that have been raised within counselling at the school, following the appropriate confidentiality protocols
- Be an integral part of the school's safeguarding team.
- Promoting counselling awareness and mental health in school to students and staff through projects and campaigns.
- Promote, and organise activities for students based in Responsibility (Care for Self, and Care for Others).
- Promote and organise activities for students based in Resilience.
- Maintain professionalism and a strong understanding of the counselling ethics of the Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia and/or other relevant professional counselling bodies.
- Ensure the counselling team maintains proper and secure confidentiality of all reports.
- Provide on-site supervision for counsellors and trainee counsellors.
Counselling
- Conduct individual and group counselling to help students understand their problems, define goals, and develop realistic action plans.
- Respond to drop-in requests and referrals, conducting preliminary assessments as needed.
- Develop a therapeutic alliance and create age-appropriate intervention plans based on students' psychological and emotional needs and situations.
- Collaborate with teachers, principals, other counsellors, and guardians, when necessary, to resolve crises or problems, while adhering to the ethical code of conduct for counselling.
- Maintain proper and secure confidentiality of all counselling records, reports, and events.
- Make referrals to external service providers when necessary, as part of case management.
- Work with and guide family members to understand students' needs and support their development and learning.
- Stay informed of current developments in counselling practices and knowledge by reading professional literature and attending courses and seminars, particularly in the fields of youth and child counselling.
- Attend clinical supervision sessions regularly.
- Provide crisis intervention to students and relevant parties in response to difficult situations.
- Offer Critical Incidents support to Taylor’s International School branch campuses and other sister institutions within the Taylor’s Education Group, as and when necessary.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Master / Degree in Counselling / Psychology or other related discipline with specialisation in counselling.
- Registered with the Board of Counsellor Malaysia (Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia) and possess a valid practising certificate.
- Receive and participate in clinical supervision for personal professional development.
