Network Engineer

Taylor's University Sdn Bhd

JOB PURPOSE

To manage the operations of the Network Unit to ensure the effective management of Taylor’s Education Group’s campus/branch LAN/WAN network, data centre, campus/branch wireless and network security. Also responsible for meeting all Service Level commitments made to internal customers from all institutions and departments in Taylor’s Education Group as detailed in the Service Level Agreements.

 

KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES

Network

  • Responsible for the installation, configurations, administration, troubleshooting, analysis and maintenance of network infrastructure and equipment within campus and inter-campus.

  • Responsible to handle all network related matters to ensure uptime of LAN/WAN and VPN services.
  • Responsible in monitoring Network Infrastructure.
  • Administrates network security tools and devices to ensures that they are functioning as required.
  • Assist in ensuring that the Network & Communication Unit work effectively with equipment suppliers and software system vendors to resolve all issues or problems encountered by users with system and networks to meet all service level commitments.
  • Assist in coordinating activities & effort with System Administrator & ICT Helpdesk Support Units to ensure effective and efficient system operations such as LAN & WAN connectivity and Internet.
  • Assist in ensuring effective and efficient end-user support provided both internal and external users in accordance with service level commitments made in service agreements.
  • Provide second level support for network related issues and problem.
  • Perform and schedule network monitoring, daily health check, preventive & corrective maintenance on daily basis.
  • Provide proper report and documentations.

 

Data Centre

  • Responsible in monitoring Data Center management systems.
  • Responsible for operating ICT Data Centre to ensure high service availability.
  • Effectively execute data centre related operating procedures and activities.
  • Approval for entry of personnel or equipment into the Data Centre
  • Response to rectify alarming situation in data centre.

 

Wireless LAN (WLAN)

  • Responsible to handle all WLAN related matters to ensure uptime of WLAN service;
  • Assist in ensuring WLAN work effectively with equipment supply.
  • Resolve all issues or problems encountered by users on WLAN (in meeting WLAN’s service level commitments);
  • Assist in coordinating activities & effort with System Administrator Unit and ICT Helpdesk Support Units to ensure effective and efficient WLAN operations.

 

Minimum Academic / Professional Qualification

  • Candidate must possess at least Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent qualifications.

 

Related Experience

  • Minimum 3 – 4 years working experience on equivalent position or related field.

 

Competencies (knowledge, skills & abilities)

  • Candidate with professional network certification such as CCNA or equivalent would be a plus.
  • Good working knowledge of network infrastructure and network hardware such as Cisco/Juniper network/Huawei network, security equipment and etc. will be a plus.
  • Good working knowledge of IPsec, OPSF and other routing protocols will be a plus.
  • Good working knowledge in the following field: LAN, Structured Cabling System, WLAN, TCP/IP, Switches & Routers, VPN, Firewalls, Bandwidth Management, DDoS, WAF, Load Balancer, NGIPS, Email & Web security protection and Network Security, Broadband and Metro-Ethernet will be a plus.
  • Strong technical knowledge on in Cisco, Aruba, F5, Palo Alto, Allot, Arbor, ForeScout, Fortinet for enterprise network & security solutions will be an advantage.
  • Ability to do network design, implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points/controller, firewall, router and switches.
  • IP address management and auditing.
  • Good communication skills, fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and acquiring new capabilities.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret document and technical procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and internal customers.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of information furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
