PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION AND CAN BE CONVERTED TO FULL TIME POSITION BASED ON PERFORMANCE

 

The incumbent will be part of a dynamic team providing technical and laboratory support for teaching and research in Taylor’s University.

 

The incumbent is to carry out in the day-to-day running of laboratories and to ensure that equipment is functioning properly and is ready to use, and that the right materials are available for particular practical session.

 

KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparation of assigned laboratories for conducting practical/ final year projects.
  • Preparing the necessary chemicals, reagents, medium, apparatus, etc. for the practical/ final year projects.
  • Carry out a periodical stock check to ensure all apparatus, chemicals and consumables are sufficient for the practical/ final year projects.
  • Ensure equipment in the laboratories are optimally maintained.
  • Planning purchases related to the module and/or courses assigned, with supervision from teaching staff and superior, by getting quotations and making requests in accordance with campus purchasing policy.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the laboratories so that the practical/ final year projects can be conducted smoothly and safely.
  • Working together with fellow colleagues and teaching staff in sharing and using lab resources and providing quality laboratory services.
  • Assisting superior to establish and regularly maintain relevant laboratory inventories, such as equipment list.
  • To demonstrate proper laboratory techniques and best practices to students.
  • To support non-teaching activities such as Open Day and Research Exchange Programme.
  • Any other responsibilities or duties that may be assigned to you from time to time.

 

JOB SPECIFICATION

 

Minimum Academic / Professional Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in science (e.g. microbiology, applied chemistry, applied biology)

 

Related Experience

At least 2 years of working experience, preferably in an educational institution.

  • Ability to understand and interpret written material of a fairly technical nature including chemical and biological terminology.
  • Good organization skills to operate and maintain equipment and laboratory in optimal condition.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate well, in English, with staff and students in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to follow safe laboratory practices.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Able to carry out duties and responsibilities with limited supervision and establish work priorities on essentially procedure oriented operations.
  • Resourceful, customer-focused, self-motivated and result-oriented.

  • Manual dexterity to perform job responsibilities.
