Senior Research Fellow - Design

Responsibilities

  • To supervise PhD candidates relevant to the area of expertise in transdisciplinary postgraduate programmes
  • To independently undertake advanced research in the relevant discipline area using, or developing, the appropriate methods and/or techniques and managing associated staff and/or student contributions to the project
  • To lead the production of high quality research reports and/or publications as required by the funding body or fordissemination to the wider academic community with The Design School
  • To lead and promote activities designed to develop collaborative research with research colleagues and supportstaff internally and to actively develop appropriate external contacts and networks relevant future collaborationand funding opportunities
  • To lead bids for major research and/or consultancy research projects
  • To lead relevant meetings associated with the research project or related activities
  • To take lead responsibility for resolving problems affecting the delivery of research projects and for planning and implementing future research projects that may emerge from the up-to-date research project
  • To contribute to the teaching profile of the department (or conduct relevant workshop to materialise CoP Community of Practice)

 

Qualifications/Experience Essential

  • A PhD or extensive and nationally recognised professional expertise
  • Extensive research experience in the relevant subject area including the production of relevant outputs andmanaging staff/students
  • A minimum an Associate Professor. Full Professorship is the priority.

 

Desirable

  • Experience of leading a research team environment
  • Experience of developing major national/international research projects and bringing them to a successfulconclusion
  • Previous vast teaching experience
  • Previous Supervised PhD candidate/s and Completed with PhD awards or GoT
  • An extensive understanding of the national and international context of research
  • Experience of working on high-profile projects attracting media interest

 

Skills & Knowledge Essential

  • Extensive applied research experience in own area or specialism
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills working at a national/international level
  • Proven problem solving and management/leadership skills
  • Excellent ICT skills

 

Personal Qualities Essential

  • An essential role as the principal supervisor that has candidate/s graduated with completion of the PhD award
  • A clear commitment to making a leading contributing to the research environment and producing high qualityresearch outputs – high impact publication
  • Proactive independent researcher with the skills to attract future research funding
  • Flexible and adaptive with a positive approach to managing substantial projects and associated resources  
  • Ability to lead a team of researchers
