Senior Lecturer - Interactive Spatial Design
JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Lecturer in Interactive Spatial Design will play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of designers who can create innovative and engaging spatial experiences through the integration of technology and design principles. This individual will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences, contributing to research and scholarly activities, and providing mentorship and guidance to students within the Interactive Spatial Design Programme.
KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching and Learning:

Develop and deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and workshops that foster a deep understanding of interactive spatial design principles and practices.

Facilitate hands-on learning experiences through projects, critiques, and studio-based activities that encourage experimentation and innovation.

Utilize a range of teaching methodologies and technologies to cater to diverse learning styles and promote active student engagement.

Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students to support their academic and creative development.

Develop and assess coursework and examinations that effectively measure student learning outcomes.
Research and Scholarly Activities:

Lead and engage in research and scholarly activities related to interactive spatial design, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field.

Publish research findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences to disseminate knowledge and enhance the University's reputation.

Collaborate with colleagues and industry partners on research projects that explore the intersection of design, technology, and spatial experiences.

Actively seek external funding to support research activities and contribute to the University's research agenda.

Supervise and mentor postgraduate research students, guiding their research projects and dissertations
Mentorship and Guidance:

Provide academic and career guidance to students, supporting their personal and professional development.

Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages collaboration and creativity.

Serve as an advisor or mentor for student organizations and clubs related to the field
Service and Administration:

Contribute to the development and review of curriculum, ensuring its relevance and alignment with industry needs.

Participate in departmental and university committees, contributing to the overall governance and strategic direction.

Participate in professional development activities to stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in the field.

Contribute to the program's accreditation efforts and quality assurance processes
REQUIREMENTS
-
PhD in Interactive Spatial Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
- Publication in C.I. journal (ISI, SCOPUS,) in the last five (5) years with at least 5 publications.
- Secured research grant(s) as a Principal Investigator worth a minimum of RM50,000 (cumulative).
- Graduated at least one (1) Master student.

Experience in using emerging technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, or mixed reality.

Experience with VR, AR, and MR platforms and equipment.

Experience with 3D editing/Design software such as Unreal Engine and/or Unity Engine, Blender, Touch designer, Arduino, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Design Suite, Enscape, Revit, and AutoCAD is a plus.

Basic video editing skills for production and documentation purposes.

Creative thinking and the ability to contribute new ideas and concepts.
- Experience working in higher education environment and a track record of teaching experience and professional knowledge of curriculum development or good record of professional experience with evidence of coaching and mentoring and a high quality of presentation skills.
- Experience working on research projects and activities or experience of professional practice/consultancy work, including evidence of appropriate outputs.
- Demonstrated links to relevant external organisations and/or the profession.

A track record of peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals or conference proceedings.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
