Senior Executive - Student Engagement and Leadership
JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Executive - Student Engagement and Leadership is responsible for planning, organising, developing, and facilitating leadership training programs and workshops aimed at building the capacities of student leaders across Student Councils, Clubs, and Societies - under the purview of Student Development. The key aspect of the role supports a culture of personal growth, active student engagement, and leadership development while ensuring all student-led initiatives align with university policies, values, and goals for student development.
As the Supporting Advisor to the Student Councils, the Senior Executive will oversee, guide, and assist the Taylor’s University Student Council, Taylor’s College Student Council, and the Postgraduate Student Council in their events, activities, operational support, and administrative matters. This role supports the Manager, who serves as the primary Advisor to the Student Councils and is responsible for governance, strategic alignment, and mentorship.
In an advisory capacity to various Clubs and Societies, this role involves working closely with student leaders to enhance their leadership capabilities and ensure that their activities and programs contribute meaningfully to the campus community. The Senior Executive will support students in executing their projects and advocate for both the professional and personal development of all student leaders. Additionally, this role acts as a liaison between student organisations and the university administration, ensuring open communication and alignment of student and institutional priorities.
The Senior Executive - Student Engagement and Leadership will also assist in the planning, organising, executing, and overseeing of the Orientation program for first-year students, which includes exploring various coaching and mentorship programs for students.
This position requires a highly detail-oriented and proactive individual who can balance multiple roles simultaneously, including event oversight, student coaching, governance support, and administrative management. The advisor must collaborate effectively with various departments and stakeholders, ensuring the successful execution of student-led initiatives and fostering a supportive and engaging environment for students to thrive.
KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Student Leadership Development:
- Organise and Facilitate Leadership/ soft skills Training: Develop and deliver leadership/ soft skills training programs and workshops for student leaders across the Student Councils, Clubs, and Societies.
- Explore Training Opportunities: Identify and organise various training and workshop opportunities tailored to both university and college students, utilising both internal and external trainers/facilitators. Liaise with external training providers to facilitate selected programs for the SHINE Award, Student Leaders, and other university and college students.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to create professional and personal growth opportunities for student leaders, university and college students.
- Promote Innovation and Inclusivity: Foster a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and community-building within student organizations.
- Program Evaluation for SHINE Award: Assess and select external training programs that add value to the SHINE Award.
- Advisory Role to Student Councils:
- Supporting Advisor: Serve as the Supporting advisor to the Taylor’s University Student Council (TUSC), Taylor’s College Student Council (TCSC), and the Postgraduate Student Council (PGSC). This role assists the Manager, the primary Advisor to the Student Councils, who is responsible for governance, strategic alignment, and mentorship. Provide consistent, hands-on support to the councils’ leadership teams, ensuring that student initiatives align with university policies.
- Event and Project Oversight: Guide the student councils in planning, organising, and executing their key initiatives and campus-wide events, such as elections, student leaders town hall, and major community engagement projects. Provide support in logistical planning, risk management, and budgeting to ensure smooth execution and alignment with university policies.
- Collaboration and Communication: Assist the Manager to facilitate effective communication between the student councils and university administration. Ensure that the councils are informed of institutional priorities and advocate for student concerns at the university level. Foster collaboration between the three councils to create a unified and cohesive student voice on campus-wide issues.
- Administrative support: Provide essential administrative and operational support as needed for council and club activities. This includes aiding in documentation, planning, and logistics, thereby allowing student leaders to focus on impactful programming. Support the Manager in streamlining administrative processes to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of council operations.
- Advisor to Clubs and Societies:
- Official Advisor Role: Serve as the official advisor to various student clubs and societies, promoting alignment with university regulations and fostering student development.
- Oversight of Activities and Events: Guide the planning, execution, and evaluation of student-led activities, events, and campaigns, ensuring quality and compliance with university standards.
- Operational Support: Assist club and society leadership teams with operational tasks, budgeting, and governance to strengthen organizational effectiveness.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate documentation of student organisation activities, including reports, budgets, and event outcomes, to support transparency and accountability.
- Mentorship and Conflict Resolution: Offer mentorship to club members and student leaders, providing support in conflict resolution and personal development.
- Event Management Support: Ensure effective logistical planning, risk management, and successful delivery of student-led events through oversight and guidance.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Foster positive working relationships between student organisations and other university departments to enhance cross-functional support.
- Liaison to University Administration: Act as the primary point of contact between clubs, societies, and university administration, facilitating communication and ensuring adherence to university policies and procedures.
- SHINE Award Advocacy: Encourage participation in the SHINE Award, guiding student leaders in documenting their roles, achievements, and experiences in the SHINE Portal to gain recognition for their contributions and support their leadership growth.
- Policy and Governance:
- Ensure that all student organisations operate in compliance with university policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Assist the Manager in the drafting and reviewing of policies, constitutions, and bylaws governing student organisations.
- Provide support in the interpretation of policies related to student leadership and organisational management.
- Supporting Orientation Initiatives:
- Collaborative Orientation Planning: Partner with the Student Development Specialist to plan, organise, and deliver an engaging orientation experience to effectively onboard new students. Responsibilities include budget and resource planning, activity scheduling, logistics coordination, and rehearsal sessions.

- Parent Orientation Sessions: Plan, organise, and conduct Parent Orientation sessions in collaboration with various stakeholders. This includes conceptualising and executing orientation briefings and activities tailored for parents.

- Orientation Reporting and Analysis: Assist to prepare, analyse, and compile orientation-related reports for the Manager and/or Orientation Team. Provide key insights and recommendations based on the orientation outcomes to support continuous improvement.

- Oversight of Taylor’s Orientation Portal (TOP): Assist in managing the functionality, content, and user experience of the Taylor’s Orientation Portal (TOP) to ensure seamless operation.

- Administrative Support for TOP: Handle administrative tasks for the TOP, ensuring all pre-orientation and orientation-related information is uploaded in a timely and organized manner.
6. Others
- Maintain high customer service standards in all aspects of work.
- Undertake any other duties that may be assigned by the Manager as and when necessary.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Minimum Academic/Professional Qualification
Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Psychology or any relevant discipline.
Related Experience
At least seven (7) years of working experience, preferably in an educational institution with experience in student development, leadership advisory, organising and coordinating activities or a related field.
