Senior Executive - Financial Reporting

JOB OVERVIEW
The Senior Executive – Financial Reporting is responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations. While a significant portion of this role involves handling financial matters related to student clubs and societies, the responsibilities extend to broader financial reporting and accounting functions within the organisation. In addition, he/she is expected to provide excellent customer service to both internal stakeholders and external parties.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting & Financial Management
- Responsible for financial reporting and analysis
- Responsible for timely and accurate monthly and yearly accounts closing
- Responsible for cash flow analysis
Including but not limited to the following:
- Handle matters relating to student clubs & societies
- End-to-End Accounting: Manage the entire accounting process for club and society funds, including but not limited to invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, and general ledger maintenance.
- Project Management: Create project definitions and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) in SAP upon request for student clubs and societies.
- Fund Management: Monitor fund movements, ensuring that proper records are kept for income, expenditures, and sponsorships, and advise on financial decisions to ensure proper fund usage. Update the Student Activity account listing/statement of account monthly and work closely with club treasurers for reconciliation and financial oversight.
- Account Reconciliation: Perform bank and account reconciliations monthly, identifying discrepancies and resolving issues promptly.
- Month-End Closing: Execute month-end WBS settlements for student activities in SAP, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Expenses – ensure that accrual is done every month for accounts closing & the accrual list is prepared. Perform cost control & historical data analysis
- Ensure that accrual accounting is done for revenue & expenses
- Prepare analysis of Balance Sheet items
- Extraction/compilation of info/reports - Perform financial analysis and compile financial data and information for use in preparation of reports as required by management and stakeholders
External Audit
- Assist in preparing for external audits by ensuring all accounting records are accurate and compliant with applicable standards. Coordinate with auditors as needed to provide necessary documentation and explanations
- Respond promptly to auditor’s queries
Internal Audit
- Provide accurate financial data and reports to internal auditor
- Liaise with internal auditor
Taxation
- Prepare tax schedules and analysis
- Assist to check and ensure accuracy of tax computation and forms
- Respond promptly to tax agent’s queries with the objective to meet deadline for tax submission
Process and System
- Manage projects, system, process related to reporting, integration to the source system
- Driving process improvement, standardization, and ensure successful execution for accounting processes and internal controls
- Participate in Financial reporting projects initiated by Group Finance, including enhancement to financial/ accounting systems
- Analyze internal processes, recommend and implement procedural or policy changes to improve financial reporting/ operations
People
- Responsible to build strong working relationships and teamwork spirit with other departments as well as other sections within Finance Department, and ensure the flow of information in both directions accurately
- Participate in meetings and attend to the issues being raised and provide solutions within the agreed timeline with the related parties
Other Responsibilities
- Involve in tax matters such as e-invoicing, withholding tax, SST, etc and ensure compliance
- Ensure compliance to regulations, accounting regulations & the relevant laws
- Undertake any other duties that may be assigned from time to time
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
MINIMUM ACADEMIC / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
Preferably Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent, or a partly completed Professional Certificate like ACCA, CIMA, CPA.
RELATED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2 years relevant working experience in accounting field and able to handle full set of accounts and performing financial analysis.
COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and financial reporting
- Computer literate especially in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and preferably SAP and IBM Cognos TM1 system
- Knowledge of and skills in using computer software applications to analyze, develop and report on the financial status of the company
- Knowledge of university/college policies and procedures relating to assigned job would be an advantage
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and maintain accurate records for all fund activities
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues efficiently
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to prepare comprehensive financial reports and analyses
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and challenging environment
- Able to plan and organize workload, multi-task and work under tight deadlines
- Ability to perform consistently and manage various assignments concurrently
