JOB PURPOSE
The XR Immersive Designer Intern fuels innovative XR experiences. Their main priority will be XR development, with a strong emphasis on 3D modelling. They will craft immersive experiences using cutting-edge tools and assist in exploring emerging technologies like AI to support XR adoption within Vortex XR Lab.
KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in XR development projects, focusing on creating immersive 3D models.
- Create detailed and optimized 3D models for various XR environments.
- Collaborate on the development and integration of virtual assets into XR applications.
- Support the optimisation of existing 3D models and assets for enhanced performance and realism.
- Assist in research related to AI integration into XR experiences (e.g., using AI for procedural content generation, smarter virtual characters, or environment analysis).
- Assist with the usage of XR Lab facilities and equipment.
- Learn and contribute to the operational knowledge of XR LED screens, 360-video equipment, and film-making techniques.
- Support the proper scheduling and organization of the XR Lab facility.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
MINIMUM ACADEMIC / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
Successful completion of A-Levels, IB, or equivalent pre-university qualification
Preference will be given to candidates who have studied subjects related to Art, Design, Computing, or Technology.
RELATED EXPERIENCE
Strong understanding of real-time 3D development workflow. Basic knowledge of game engine development software, such as Unreal Engine and/or Unity Engine, is preferred. Experience with supporting software such as Visual Studio, GitHub, and Vuforia is a plus. Basic understanding of 3D modelling development workflow, including tools like Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max. Film production experience is advantageous but not required. Familiarity with XR technologies and concepts is desirable, as well as familiarity with basic programming logic or scripting (e.g., Python).
COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
- Willingness to learn and develop skills in Unreal Engine, Zero Density software, and Unity Game Engine.
- Interest in VR, AR, and MR platforms and equipment, including but not limited to HoloLens, Meta Quest 2, and HTC Vive Pro.
- Familiarity with 3D editing software such as Blender, Davinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Design Suite, Enscape, Revit, and AutoCAD.
- Eagerness to gain operational knowledge of XR LED screens, 360-video equipment, and film-making techniques.
- Eagerness to learn and gain knowledge of AI concepts and tools that intersect with real-time 3D development.
- Strong research skills to find and utilize resources relevant to XR production and development, including AI tools and methodologies.
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas through sketches, visual diagrams, and other presentation tools.
