JOB PURPOSE

 

We’re looking for a passionate Public Relations or Corporate Communications executive to join the Communications team. In this role, you will work within a team of PR practitioners of all levels, reporting to the Communications Manager. You will be involved in projects from ideation to reporting, so teamwork, and the willingness to start doing something enthusiastically is a must.

 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the team in planning and executing integrated strategies through owned, earned and paid placements on digital and print.
  • Regularly produce written content, PR collateral and pitch story angles that are appropriate for media across various platforms, including digital/online media and social media.
  • Develop and maintaining relationships with key journalists to secure favourable coverage and increase visibility
  • Serve as the university's primary point of contact for media inquiries, interviews, and press releases.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of media lists, press kits, and other PR resources
  • Monitor PR and social trends and relevant industry news to ensure our approach is up to date.
  • Communicate and work closely with other departments across the organisation
  • Assist the team with media monitoring
  • Maintain a digital repository of PR material.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

MINIMUM ACADEMIC / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, communications or its equivalent

 

RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Preferably 1 year experience in public relations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  •  Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and messages for diverse audiences

 

 

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)

  • Strong enthusiasm for keeping abreast of digital trends.
  • Demonstrates some understanding of social media and the digital media landscape with ideas on how to incorporate these into PR campaigns.
  • A strong grasp of the English language, with the ability to write various media collaterals and meet tight deadlines.
