The Clinical Psychologist upholds an active role in supporting the holistic mental health and wellbeing of students within the university for the Centre for Counselling Services in a professional and ethical way. This role requires the staff to provide psychological assessments, counselling, and interventions, while also contributing to campus-wide outreach, crisis response, and where applicable, psychoeducational activities. He/she requires to have commendable passion in working with the young adults in tertiary education setting, having a good rapport and understanding about them.

The candidate will work closely with department colleagues and will report to the Head, Centre for Counselling Services (CCS) and Student Welfare.

KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Clinical Work
• Deliver individual and group counselling for students dealing with emotional, psychological, or academic challenges.
• Conduct thorough psychological assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and risk assessments.
• Provide support, review and coordination for Fitness-to-Study Evaluation and procedure of the institution.
• Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in accordance with professional guidelines and Malaysian regulatory requirements.
• Maintain comprehensive and confidential clinical documentation following Allied Health Professional Act 2016 by Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council and university standards.
2. Crisis Response
• Provide immediate intervention for students experiencing acute psychological distress or safety risks.
• Participate in university crisis-management procedures, including post-crisis follow-up.
• Coordinate with hospitals, community mental health providers, and emergency services when referrals or escalations are necessary.
3. Outreach & Mental Health Education
• Organise and conduct workshops, talks, and programs related to mental health and psychological support.
• Support university-wide mental health promotion efforts and student support initiatives, including the usage of social media for this generation.
4. Consultation & Collaboration
• Offer guidance to faculty and staff regarding concerns about student behaviour or well-being.
• Work alongside a multidisciplinary team, which may include counsellors, student welfare staff, psychiatrists and faculty members.
• Collaborate with academic and administrative units to foster a healthy and supportive campus environment.
• Refer students to external professionals when specialised care is needed.
5. Administration and others
• Provide timely and updated information about the client(s) in the university system.
• Update monthly case statistics, masterlist and other necessary information as and when required.
• Undertake other duties not specifically stated above, which from time to time are necessary for the effective performance of the University’s business without altering the nature or level of responsibility involved.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
1. Master of Clinical Psychology or its equivalent from accredited institution.
2. Registered with the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC).


RELATED EXPERIENCE
Preferably FIVE (5) years relevant work experience, preferably in an educational institution with involvement in mental health related responsibilities, with strong foundation in evidence-based assessment and therapeutic methods.

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
1. Knowledge and ability in care and welfare for the students in which it includes awareness of the mental health support service available, providing supportive advice and guidance, showing empathy and sensitivity and initiating action by involving the relevant people (eg, family, lecturers)
2. Ability to deal with emergencies in a calm and efficient way.
3. Comprehensive understanding of the student experience and the proven ability to apply theories of intercultural communication and cultural differences.
4. Knowledge and skills in using computer software e.g., Microsoft software applications.
5. Excellent written, spoken, cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills.
6. Possesses a good command of English, Bahasa Malaysia, or one or more languages. Good command of spoken and written Chinese is an added advantage.
