My day starts at 8 am when I arrive at school.  My first job is to check the lab order for the department.  This is a document I share with the teachers for them to fill out for requirements for their lessons for that day.  I need to ensure that any chemicals needed are prepared and that experiments are set up for the lessons that morning.  This is a key part of my role and ongoing throughout the day.  When teachers share with me the experiments they are doing, I will take time to research them and check for risk assessment and any potential hazards that I share with the teachers.  This is to help ensure the safety of learners and teachers within the lab space.  I also trial out the experiments beforehand to ensure that they work.

Most days I am involved in supporting the learners within the labs with experiments and investigations that they are carrying out.  As the day continues I support with the clearing of the labs, replenishing of glassware.  I also need to place orders for the purchase of both chemicals and equipment, liaising with the teachers and vendors to ensure we don’t run short of supplies.  My day ends at 4:30pm, having checked the lab requirements document in preparation for tomorrow.
