The Head of Faculty/Department at Taylor’s International School is responsible for leading the teaching and learning, and administration of that subject in the school, and a number of teachers within that department or faculty.
Heads of Department/Faculty are line managed by the Head of Section and the Deputy Head (Curriculum).
Responsibilities
The Faculty/Department Head of subject has, in addition to being a subject teacher, the following responsibilities:

To coordinate and supervise all the relevant subject teachers he/she is responsible for.

To assist in the observation of subject teachers to identify strengths and weaknesses in the teaching of the subjects he/she is in charge of.

To consistently upgrade their own knowledge of their subject and convey it to other teachers.

To implement and supervise an effective system to check student’s written work and feedback strengths and weaknesses to teachers.

To conduct subject meetings as and when necessary aimed at building upon strengths and overcoming weaknesses.

To thoroughly check all examination/test papers to ensure the highest standards and to ensure all examination papers are marked in a professional manner.

To provide input in determining the books/workbooks for all levels as well as to constantly source for additional resources for the department

To plan and distribute a comprehensive yearly scheme of work relevant to her/his subject for all levels.

To constantly seek ways and means to improve students’ performance in the subject by analyzing strengths and weaknesses based on formal and informal assessments.

To carry out whatever directions that may be issued from time to time by the Principal / Head of Secondary /Deputy Head (Academic).
Tasks
-
To attend curriculum meetings as directed by the Head of Section or Deputy Head (Curriculum )

Ensure all the schemes of work are properly kept and implemented.

Periodic checking of exercise books selected at random.

Support teachers who are not performing as expected such as
-
Discussion, counseling and setting targets.
-
Submit periodic reports on the overall performance of the teachers in the faculty/Dept to the head of section.
-
Ensure the quality of teaching is high through regular observation, supervision and discussion.

Ensure appropriate policies and strategies are properly followed by the teachers.
-
Regular monitoring of the progress of the students to determine the effectiveness of the learning process.

Conduct regular discussion with the teachers to monitor progress of students.
-
Counsel students who are not performing or are facing difficulties in their studies.
