A TYPICAL DAY

No two days are alike in the IT Office - with the range of staff, learners, parents and systems to support there are often new challenges to be overcome everyday. You might start the day examining logs or email notifications to check on overnight operations or alerts at the same time as checking what support tickets have been allocated to you. Once the tickets have been dealt with either remotely or by visiting the person it might be time for a break after which you can focus on one of several projects you have been assigned. There will be formal and informal team and project meetings as often the solutions are multi-faceted requiring technical input from other team members. Before or after lunch there may be a stint on the support desk to cover the helpdesk administrator’s lunchtime. After lunch you will continue to prioritise the tickets with the project work. Software or hardware issues may need to be resolved with further visits to classrooms or offices where in situ troubleshooting is required. You might be engaged in staff or learner training and helping the team to set up for an after school event or supporting with the setup of an IT related after school club. By the end of the day you are likely to have interacted with maybe more than 20 different staff, learners or parents; solved problems from AV to Zip files and configured or interacted with a variety of operational, security, monitoring and control software solutions. In the first 4 months of the job you may also be working on different sites on different days.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Minimum high-school (twelve formal years of education) qualification

  • Bachelor degree qualification in computing, engineering or IT related discipline is preferred

  • At least two years of relevant working experience

  • Experience with Crestron Networked AV, C-Cure 9000 Security & Event Management System, Milestone XProtect Security Video Management System and other facility type operations applications will be an advantage.

  • Excellent observational and organisational skills, an eye for details and the ability to focus on a multi-layered problem

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Previous experience within the education sector will also be an advantage.
