The Learning Resource Hub is a busy and demanding work environment and the ability to work within a team and to communicate effectively with others is essential.

A TYPICAL DAY

I start my day by checking my email and the day’s schedule, to ensure there are no last minute changes. Today we have four primary classes and one secondary class coming to the Learning Resources Hub. I help the Teacher Librarian prepare some materials for the primary lessons. Once the learners arrive, I help to check in all the books they are returning.  I organise the books in a trolley to return to the shelves later in the day. At the end of the primary lesson, I help the young learners check out their new books.

I then head to the Secondary Learning Resource Hub to help the secondary learners. I check their books in and quickly reshelve them, answering any questions the learners may have. After lunch, I check any books that are late and send reminders to the parents. A small order of books from a new vendor has arrived, and I will need to catalog them, cover them, and prepare them to be borrowed.

Next week is Dr Seuss week, so we are preparing decorations and displays. In two weeks, it will be the summer holidays break. It is a quiet time in the Learning Resource Hub and the best time to do our annual inventory.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Diploma in Library or Information Science (preferred) or related tertiary qualification
  • Good knowledge of library techniques, systems, working tools, procedures and cataloguing library resources
  • Skill in the use of standard library methods and principles in cataloguing, classification, circulation and reference services
  • Able to carry out cataloguing of both English and Chinese language resources (preferred)
