Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced English as an Additional Language (EAL) Specialist to join our dynamic team at Taylor’s Schools as VP of Language Acquisition (VPLA) and working across our international schools in Malaysia and Singapore. 

He/She will be responsible to provide strategic direction and quality assurance for all Taylor’s Schools EAL provision, looking at curriculum, methodology and more importantly available ALS to assist in teaching and learning

He/She will play a key role in supporting students for whom English is an additional language, helping them achieve academic success and integrate confidently into an English-medium learning environment. 

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with School Principals and Leadership Teams, particularly the Heads of EAL of respective schools, classroom teachers, administrators, and parents to deliver inclusive and effective language support programs.

He/She will also look at the possibility of starting a standalone Taylor’s English Academy that will be a feeder to Taylor’s Schools and potentially other International Schools.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support

To work with  schools to standardize the EAL framework and definitions.

  • Define and establish a consistent EAL approach and pathways across all Taylor’s Schools 

  • Work with Schools to assess and identify a consistent English language proficiency level of students using standardized tools and frameworks (e.g., SLATE, WIDA, CEFR).

  • Design and support the schools in the implementation of targeted EAL Programs (pull-out, push-in, co-teaching, small group or intensive models) to support students across grade levels (K–12).

  • Monitor and evaluate teachers’ planning for language and to respond appropriately to emergent issues and data indicators

Curriculum and Assessment

  • Collaborate with School leadership and classroom teachers to adapt curriculum materials and assessments for EAL students.

  • Integrate EAL best practices into subject teaching to ensure access to content learning.

  • Work with schools to implement processes to monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students, teachers, and parents.

  • Work with schools to implement the maintenance of accurate records of EAL student progress and provide data-driven insights for school leadership.

Professional Collaboration and Development

  • Provide and support coaching, resources, and professional development for classroom teachers to enhance language-inclusive teaching strategies.

  • Using BlueSky to ensure there is self assessment of EAL teachers against standards

  • Collaborate with the Inclusion, Counseling, and Academic teams to ensure holistic student support.

  • Communicate effectively with families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Program Development

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the EAL programs across the Taylor’s Schools, including policy, practice, and resource planning.

  • Explore and lead the implementation of new business opportunities for Taylor’s Schools including the opportunity to open a standalone Academic English School

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.

  • Certified EAL/ESL qualification (e.g., CELTA, TESOL certificate, PGCE with EAL specialization).

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant EAL teaching experience in international or multicultural settings and demonstrable success in supporting English language development in an EAL setting. 

  • Deep understanding of second language acquisition theories and practices.

  • Experience with international curricula (e.g., IB, Cambridge, American Common Core) is highly valued.

  • Strong intercultural communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to adapt across different school environments and grade levels.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with WIDA standards and multilingual learner assessment tools.

  • Experience working across multiple campuses or in a school group structure.
