JOB DESCRIPTION

Subject teachers are informed, reflective practitioners who use inquiry-based teaching strategies to create positive learning environments that motivate and challenge learners to become proactive, life-long learners and leaders. 

 

As a member of our Science team, you will be teaching groups of learners between years 7 to 13 (ages 11 to 18). We deliver the IB MYP, IGCSE Science (Edexcel), and IBDP across the Secondary school. 

 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employing effective pedagogy that enables children to become successful and self-regulated learners who achieve personal excellence by:

  • Building learning-focused relationships

  • Being accountable for learners academic and social and emotional progress

  • Using appropriate assessment tools for formative and summative assessment

  • Recording and using assessment information to monitor learners and plan progression

  • Collaborating with peers to help learners progress through the MYP levels to be able to pursue science all the way to IBDP

  • Providing high quality scaffolding and feedback to learners that encourages learners to reflect on their learning

  • Involving parents in their children’s learning through learner-led conferences and regular parent – teacher dialogue

  • Employing and integrating ICT as a tool that improves children’s learning and assists learners to solve authentic problems related to “real-world” problems or issues

  • Involvement in whole school events and activities as required

  • Modeling the skills and attitudes of a global citizenship, through presentation, personal and professional conduct

  • Proactively safeguarding our learners

  • Working with learners as a form tutor as assigned, helping them set and achieve personal goals 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A recognised teaching qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher qualification) in Education, Science, Biology, or a related field

  • Evidence of continued relevant professional development

  • Experience working with bilingual and multilingual learners and learners with diverse needs

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in an international school environment where the school curriculum focused on IB-MYP, IGCSE or IBDP (preferred).
