JOB DESCRIPTION
The Year Leader is responsible for the pedagogy, curriculum overview, assessment and wellbeing of the staff and learners within the Year Group. Their leadership is consistent with the Nexus Way and IB philosophies and, with the guidance of the SLT Link they will support the Year Group community to strive for personal excellence.
As a teacher, they model best practice and are open-minded. They are an informed, innovative and reflective practitioner who uses inquiry-based teaching strategies to create positive and inclusive learning environments that motivate and challenge all children to become self-regulated, learners who are empowered to take action. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the SLT Link, the Year Leader will be responsible for:

Building learning-focused relationships with all staff, learners and parents in the Year Group

Providing an organised and supportive environment for all

Working alongside the SLT to empower staff to develop their practice by being open-minded and risk-takers, through active collegial discussions, coaching, mentoring, feedback and staff self-reflection

Celebrating high quality learning and teaching and evaluating practice in the Year Group with reference to the Nexus Learning and Teaching Standards

Working with the PYP Coordinator to have a clear and in-depth overview of the curriculum for the Year Group and evaluating its impact

Liaising with SLT to have an overview of the formative and summative assessment taking place and reflecting on the progression of learners

Expects high levels of engagement and positive behaviour from all learners and addresses conflict promptly and effectively, consistent with the school’s commitment to Restorative Practice

Working alongside the SLT to monitor the wellbeing of learners and being proactive in delivering a pastoral programme across the Year Group

Involving parents in their children’s learning and wellbeing through regular dialogue, learning exhibitions and other activities

Promotes/advocates for safeguarding, inclusion and international mindedness and the needs of a diverse group of learners, specifically EAL and those requiring learning support and works effectively with the EAL, LS and Counselling teams

Making effective use of digital technologies as a tool to enhance the working of the Year Group

Representing the Year Group in whole school events and activities

Ensuring that school policies and procedures are adhered to as they apply to the Year Group

Expectation to attend Academic Days in holiday time as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

A recognised teaching qualification
-
Bachelor’s degree (or higher qualification) in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, or a related field

Experience of teaching and leading within the PYP framework (preferred)

Evidence of continued relevant professional development
-
Strong, engaging and positive interpersonal skills and an understanding of a restorative approach to conflict
-
Experience working with bilingual and multilingual learners and learners with diverse needs
-
At least 2 years of relevant experience in an international school environment where the school curriculum focused on PYP, MYP, IGCSE or IBDP
-
Previous leadership experience in a school setting is highly desirable
