JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Deputy Head of Secondary is an innovative leader who empowers teams through the elements of The Nexus Way. They support the Head of Secondary in the pedagogical, strategic and operational leadership of the secondary school. The Deputy Head of Secondary School works with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). As part of the SLT, the Deputy Head of Secondary is an effective communicator and works collaboratively with all members of the community. The secondary school is divided into 3 phases of learning, MYP Y7-Y9, IGCSE Y10-Y11 and IBDP Y12-Y13.

 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leading the strategic direction of the Secondary School with the Head of School
  • Contributing to whole school strategic planning
  • Working with Year Leaders and Learning Area Leaders to lead a phase of the secondary school
  • Leading and working with Learning Area Leaders and Year Leaders to ensure robust tracking of learners
  • Leading on the use of GL testing and use of data to inform tracking and intervention
  • Working with the Guardian Coordinator to quality assure homestay provision and safeguard learners who live in Singapore without their family
  • Line managing some of the secondary teams including the library
  • Supporting with recruitment and retention  of Nexus teachers and learners
  • Supporting induction of new learners and staff
  • Leading aspects of professional learning
  • Leading aspects of external accreditations including SSG, IB and CIS/WASC.
  • Working collaboratively on Vertical Alignment with the Primary School
  • Teaching classes as required
  • Involvement in whole school events and activities as required.
  • To perform any other duties as assigned

 

 QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

 

  • Proven track record of impactful leadership in a Secondary School in both curriculum and pastoral roles
  • A relevant degree plus teaching qualification (or equivalent)
  • Higher degree or recognised professional qualification (preferred)
  • Ability to maintain professionalism at all times
  • Proficient in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and retain a sense of humour
  • Solutions focused and assumes good intent
  • Evidence of continued relevant professional development
  • Experience in an international school environment and demonstrable intercultural competencies
  • Experience with an inclusive approach to learning and working with diverse needs and EAL learners
  • Relevant curriculum experience, including MYP, CIE, EdExcel and IBDP assessment practices
  • Being a positive advocate for the school
  • Coaching accreditation (preferred)
  • Involvement in key whole school events and activities
